Accrington Stanley vs Bristol Rovers Match Analysis & Prediction
14/01/2023 6:00 pm
Relegated-threatened Accrington Stanley play host to Bristol Rovers at the Wham Stadium in the latest round of League One matches this weekend.
While the hosts are currently languishing in the relegation zone, two points from safety, the visitors are firmly involved in the intensley-competitive playoff picture.
After suffering consecutive league defeats to Morecambe on December 29 and then four days later against Derby County, Accrington Stanley will face an FA Cup third round replay following on from being held to 1-1 draw by National League side Boreham Wood.
However, John Coleman’s side were victorious in their exploits to progress to the Football League Trophy semi-finals after a penalty-shootout victory over Lincoln City on Tuesday.
After just one defeat in the last 12 encounters between the two sides, Stanley will be confident about accomplishing their mission of finally handing their supporters something to celebrate in the league come 5pm on Saturday.
After five victories in their last eight league matches dating back to mid-November, Bristol Rovers continued their strong run of form with consecutive three-point hauls in their next two games.
Joey Barton’s side began 2023 with back-to-back victories over relegation candidates Cheltenham Town and Cambridge United.
They began their opening gambit of 2023 on New Year’s Day, as goals from Aaron Collins and Josh Coburn secured a 2-1 victory for the hosts. The Pirates followed that triumph with another win six days later at the Abbey Stadium by the same scoreline.
Rovers were relieved of their EFL Trophy duties, although with a much-altered starting XI, by the current league leaders Plymouth Argyle on Tuesday.
Accrington Stanley vs. Bristol Rovers Head to head
In the previous 16 meetings between these two sides, Accrington Stanley have claimed 10 victories while Bristol Rovers have won three, and they have drawn in three. Rovers have scored 21 goals and conceded 24 in the process.
