This Wednesday holds the last fixtures of Euro 2020 group stage and among them is the repeat of the Euro 2016 final as Portugal take on France in the last fixture of Group F at Ferenc Puskas Stadium with kickoff at 22:00.
This will be an exciting match as France are presented with a chance for revenge following their 1-0 defeat to Portugal in the Euro 2016 final while Portugal will be looking to bounce back from their heavy defeat against German as they both look to proceed to the knockouts.
Portugal are currently in the third spot with three points in the group standings with only one match left against France. Portugal found themselves in this tough spot after their defeat in a goal thrilling match against Germany on Saturday, the clash ended 4-2 as Germans registered their first victory in the tournament and leapfrogged in front of Portugal with a higher goal difference.
Cristiano Ronaldo opened the scoring, making him the highest goal scorer of the European championship, before Germany tied things up and hit back with four goals before Diogo Jota halved the deficit in the second half but it was too late for the Portuguese to salvage something. Prior to the defeat Portugal kicked off their Euro 2020 in a style as they hammered Hungary 3-0 in the last six minutes of their opening game.
Despite their defeat on Saturday Portugal still remain in a good form as they had a seven-match unbeaten run since their 0-1 defeat to their Wednesday’s opponents France back in November 2020. They will head into the match with a win in mind as they hope Germany to drop points in their game against Hungary.
Meanwhile France head into the match following their disappointing 1-1 draw to Hungary with their star forwards Kylian Mbappe, Antoine Griezmann and Karim Benzema left with guilt of wasting some good chances with unspeakable finishings on that day. However, the Les Bleus managed to rescue at least a point as they settled for a share in the spoils which left Hungarians feeling a win for them with their stadium filled with jubilant supporters.
As result to their draw France failed to qualify to the knockout stage, however, they remain on top of Group F with four points from two games and will advance to the knockouts as group leaders with a win on Wednesday. They head into the match being in a brilliant form as they have not lost in their last nine games across all competitions including a five-match winning streak and will fancy their chances of being the favorites.
