Both Panama and Jamaica will be looking to bounce back to winning ways when they lock horns for the 10th CONCACAFA World Cup qualifying fixture at the Estadio Rommel Fernandez on Sunday night with kickoff at 02:05.
Panama have done well in the final round of the CONCACAF World Cup qualifiers to sit in the playoff spot on 14 points three behind the third-placed Mexico and two above Costa Rica in the fifth.
However, the team failed to ascertain their playoff spot last Thursday as they fell to a narrow 1-0 defeat away to Costa Rica, leaving their place to the open as they are now two points above Costa Rica and seven above Jamaica.
With now five matches remaining Panama cannot afford anymore slipups starting with the Sunday’s clash. But Los Canaleros have proved to be a tough nut to crack at home and won their last two home qualifying fixtures beating USA and El Salvador and they will want to keep things that way. Also, they beat Jamaica 3-0 in the reverse fixture and they will be looking to replicate the result.
Meanwhile Jamaica have had a slow final round campaign with side only claiming one win in their nine matches while recording for draws and four defeats in the process. They are currently in the sixth place with seven points to their name, one point above the seventh-placed El Salvador and five behind Costa Rica.
They hopes of advancing to their second World Cup finals took another blow on Thursday as they fell to a 2-1 defeat to Mexico, giving up a 1-0 lead with the Mexicans finding the net twice in two minutes. The gap between them and Panama remains seven points and with five matches remaining Jamaica will need to start picking maximum points if they are to get close to the playoff place.
