Norwich City will begin their journey back to Premier League at home against Liverpool on Saturday at the Carrow Road with kickoff at 19:30.
Daniel Farke steered his side back to the top tier at the first time of asking last season with the Canaries romping to the Championship title with a record-breaking 97 points.
Norwich last played in the Premier League in the 2019-20 season and they opened that campaign with a thrashing 4-1 defeat against Liverpool. The Carrow Road Club will now be desperate to avoid the repeat of 2019-20 start with Daniel Farke hoping that the crowd at the Carrow Road can get behind them and support them to a positive result in their opener.
Norwich had a good run in the pre-season winning against Kings Lynn, Lincoln, Huddersfield and Gillingham. However, they slumped in their final pre-season match as they were edged 3-0 by a fellow Premier League outfit Newcastle.
Meanwhile Liverpool had a tough campaign last season meekly surrendering their English crown to Manchester City who finished 17 points ahead of the third-placed Liverpool. However, the Merseyside club’s tittle defense was derailed by long-term injuries to Virgil van Dijk, Joe Gomez and Joel Matip but Jurgen Klopp would proceed to downplay his side’s chances of even making the top four during their abysmal February and March period.
Indeed, its worthy remembering that Klopp’s side finished last season strongly as they stormed into the top four thanks to their end-of-season revival as the Reds won eight and drew two of their final 10 matches to finish third ahead of Chelsea and Leicester City.
A revitalized Liverpool with the return of Virgil van Dijk, Joe Gomez and the acquisition of Ibrahima Konate will be viewed as tittle challengers and Norwich will have their work cut out on the opening day of the season.
Liverpool had a decent run in the preseason as they only lost one of their four pre-season matches and head into the season opener off the back of a 3-1 win over Osasuna last Monday.

Norwich will be without Sam Byram who is recovering from a hamstring injury while Jordan Hugil, Bali Munba, Todd Cantwell, Przemyslaw Placheta, Grant Hanley and Lukas Rupp are all in doubt of starting.

Liverpool will be without the services of Andy Robertson who suffered an ankle injury in the pre-season and Curtis Jones who has to deal with a concussion protocol.
