Norway vs Serbia Match Analysis and Prediction

With promotion to the UEFA Nations League’s top tier at stake, Norway and Serbia go head to head in Oslo on Tuesday, in a winner-takes-all contest.

Locked together on points at the top of League B Group 4, the two nations meet on the final day knowing that anything other than a Sernian victory would see the hosts secure first place.

Despite their loss in Slovenia at the weekend, Norway can still reach League A after Tuesday’s Group 4 finale, having started the inaugural Nations League among Europe’s third tier back in 2018.

Promoted at the end of the first edition, Stale Solbakken’s side then finished second on their first appearance at League B level, and are now within touching distance of mixing with the elite.

Norway’s 2-1 defeat to Slovenia combined with a Serbia win over Sweden saw the Lions caught on 10 points by the World Cup-bound Eagles, setting up a dramatic conclusion to the group at Ullevaal Stadion.

Meanwhile, Serbia’s only defeat of the current Nations League campaign came at home to Norway in June, when they were beaten by a single Haaland strike despite dominating both the ball and the shot count.

Otherwise, Dragan Stojkovic’s side have continued to soar this year, as they now follow an impressive qualification for Qatar 2022 with a productive run in Europe’s newest international competition.

Now only one goal short of his international half-century, Aleksandar Mitrovic feature among an impressive cast of attacking players for the Eagles, befitting the style in which Stojkovic gained such reknown in his playing career.

Having already picked up four more points than in their previous Nations League campaign, when they only avoided relegation on goal difference, adding three more in Norway on Tuesday would see them move into the continent’s elite next time around.

Norway news

Having settled on a 4-3-3 formation in recent months, Solbakken must decide whether to stick or make changes on the final day.

At least one change will be made in midfield, as Kristian Thorstvedt must serve a one-game suspension due to accumulated bookings, with Morten Thorsby his most likely replacement.

Serbia news

Vice-captain Aleksandar Mitrovic will lead the line for Serbia, while Nikola Milenkovic is absent from the back three due to injury.

Midfielder Sergej Milinkovic-Savic will be sidelined after picking up another yellow card against Sweden, which may see Filip Djuricic or Ivan Ilic drafted into the side that starts in Oslo.

Prediction and Odds

Serbia’s all-round riches mean that they are capable of winning even when their backs are against the wall, while Norway are reliant on one man to fire them to success.

We are expecting this to be an entertaining contest which could see the visitors earn promotion to the Nations League’s top flight.
