Newcastle will still be in search of their first Premier League win after 14 matches this season when they welcome fellow strugglers Burnley to St James’ Park on Saturday evening with kickoff at 18:00.
Indeed, Newcastle have had a tough campaign this season with the wealthiest club now sitting at bottom of the Premier League with just seven points collected from their 14 matches so far. They were denied what would have been their first win of the season across all competition in their 16th time of asking on Tuesday night when they forced to draw 1-1 with a resurgent Norwich City who grabbed a late equalizer. The Magpies opened the scoring in the 61st minute through a penalty kick that was converted by Callum Wilson, but an 80-minute stellar from Teemu Pukki condemned Newcastle to their 14th match without a win the top tier.
With relegation now starting to seem inventible for the Magpies, a win therefore is really necessary in the Saturday’s game for Eddie Howe’s side not only to get their season under way but also they need a win as a confidence booster since they are set to face a really tough December, with the likes of Leicester, Liverpool, Manchester City and Manchester United awaiting after Burnley.
Meanwhile Burnley are not any better than their opponents as the club has only managed one win in their 14 matches, drawn seven and lost five in process. They currently sit three points and one position above their Saturday’s host and three points adrift off safety.
They head into the match on the back of three consecutive draws including the 0-0 against Wolverhampton last weekend. Therefore Burnley will also be looking to return to winnings as they need wins to salvage their season.
