Napoli will be looking to return to their winning track in the Serie A this weekend when they host Sampdoria in the 21st round of the campaign. The venue to this fixture will be the Diego Armando Maradona Stadium on 9th January 2022 at 18:30 EAT.
Despite of being winless in the last two matches Napoli still sits third in the league table with 40 points after 20 matches. Having led the way at the top of Serie A up until the beginning of December, a run of disappointing results in the build up to Christmas saw Napoli slip down to the third spot in the table.
Napoli were left disappointed after a second-half Old Lady comeback denied them as visitors a memorable victory in their previous match that played out 1-1 Serie A tie. In that match, Napoli had 56% possession, 16 shots with four of them on target and a goal scored by Dries Mertens (23′). Juventus got 22 shots with five of them on target and a goal by Federico Chiesa (54′).
On the other side of the pitch will be Sampdoria who is in the 15th place in the table with 20 points after 20 matches. Things haven’t been going quite smooth for this team and their current form consists of just one win in the last five Serie A matches which set them up in the New Year with the threat of relegation over their head.
Sampdoria were outplayed in their own backyard 1-2 Serie A by Cagliari three days ago. In that match, Sampdoria managed 49% possession, four shots with one of them on target and a goal by Manolo Gabbiadini (18′). Meanwhile, Cagliari got 15 shots with seven of them on target and goals by Alessandro Deiola (55′) and Leonardo Pavoletti (71′).
