Fresh from proving their worth in Champions League, Paris Saint-Germain return to Ligue 1 with an away fixture against Nantes at the Stade de la Beaujoire on Saturday night with kickoff at 23:00.
Nantes did well to bounce back from their 1-0 away defeat to Strasbourg in Ligue 1 on sixth this month with a comfortable 2-0 win against Bastia in the quarter finals of the Coupe de France on Thursday last week.
They followed that up with a 1-0 victory against 10-men Reims in the league last weekend with Moses Simon converting a free kick to help the Canaries to secure their 10th league win this campaign.
The win has moved Antoine Kombouare’s side up to ninth in the Ligue 1 standings where they sit on 35 points from 24 matches and are now just two points off the European places. Therefore, Nantes will be looking extend their winning streak as with another positive result on Saturday as they aim at breaking into the top five in the process.
They will draw confidence from their solid home record that has seen them win six and draw one of their last seven games at Stade de la Beaujoire, including a victory in each their last four.
However, in there way stand the league leaders Paris Saint-Germain who are currently flying high in both Ligue 1 and Champions League. Once again Kylian Mbappe stole the headlines on Tuesday night following his fine solo goal in stoppage time helping PSG secure a narrow 1-0 win against Real Madrid in the first-leg of their Champions League last-16 tie in Paris.
They now have two Ligue 1 matches to focus on before traveling to Madrid for the second leg, and they will start at Stade de la Beaujoire on Saturday against the European-seeking Nantes. PSG are currently in brilliant league form having gone unbeaten in their last 15 league matches and are coming off a four-match winning streak including the 1-0 home victory against Rennes last weekend.
The lead the league with 13 points in the clear and seem to be on their way to their former Ligue 1 glory. They secured a 3-1 win against Nantes in the reverse fixture and will be full of confidence heading into the match as they seek their fifth successive league win.
