Latvia will be looking to extend their Group D1 lead when they visit the Zimbru Stadium to take on Moldova in their third group round on Friday night.
Moldova made a good start to their EUFA Nations League campaign as they dispatched Liechtenstein 2-0 at away last week Friday. That was followed by a 0-0 draw against Andorra on Monday, and they have now won just one of their last 13 matches across all competitions.
They sit second though in Group 1 of League D on four points, just two points behind the group leaders Latvia. Therefore, a victory in this clash could see Moldova overtake their visitors at the summit and keep their promotion hopes alive.
However, they have lost all their last four games at home and have been beaten by Latvia in their last two meetings, thus they will need to be absolutely at their best to get anything on Friday.
Latvia on the other hand, made an impressive start to their 2022-23 UEFA Nations League campaign following a 3-0 victory over Andorra on the opening day. They followed that up with a narrow but efficient 1-0 win over Liechtenstein last Monday. They now sit at the top of the group with six points and will be looking to extend that lead with another win on Friday.
Latvia have gone unbeaten in their last six games and have also not lost any of their last four away matches across all competitions, and thus should be confident heading into the Friday’s fixture. A win on Friday will increase their chances of earning a promotion to League C and will look to seize the opportunity.
