Bournemouth will look to extend their unbeaten run in the Premier League when they welcome Southampton to Vitality Stadium for their Matchday 12 tie on Wednesday night. Bournemouth have made impressive run in the top flight under stand-in manager Gary O’Neil, as he now led the Cherries into a six-match unbeaten run following the 2-2 draw at Fulham last time out. O’Neil’s side went ahead twice through Dominic Solanke and Jefferson Lerma, but they pegged back in both occasions through Issa Diop and Aleksandar Mitrovic, with Lerma going from hero to villain as he gave away the spot kick for Mitrovic to make it 2-2. The run has seen Bournemouth move into the top half of the table, as they currently sit 10th, level on 13 points with Brentford and Liverpool on ninth and eighth respectively and one point outside the European places, although seventh-placed Brighton have played one match less. Meanwhile, after what seemed like an impressive start to the campaign, Southampton have lost their stride as they now gone winless in their last five league matches, suffering four defeats and drawing once in the run. The run has seen them drop into the relegation zone, where they sit 18th, three points above both Leicester and Nottingham at the bottom of the table and one point adrift of safety. Ralph Hasenhuttl’s side were held to a 1-1 draw by West Ham last time out at St Mary’s Stadium. Romain Perraud’s deflected opener saw Southampton go into half time with a one-goal advantage, but West Ham huffed and puffed and were eventually rewarded with a peach of an equalizer through Declan Rice. The only positive from that draw for Southampton is that they managed to avoid a fifth consecutive defeat, and will need to rise the game levels if they are to turn around their fortunes on Wednesday.
