In-form Brentford will hope break into the top half of the Premier League table when they visit the Vicarage Road to take on a relegation-threatened Watford in their league round 33 tie on Saturday evening with kickoff at 17:00.
Watford were left empty-handed again in the Premier League when they fell to a disappointing 3-0 defeat to Jesse Marsch’s Leeds at Vicarage Road last Saturday. The defeat was another damaging blow in the Hornets’ race against the drop. They have now suffered four defeats in their last five league matches, while they have won just one of their last seven top flight games.
They currently sit just a point and a place above the bottom of the table with just 22 points from 31 matches, and are still six points away from safety with just seven matches remaining to go. Roy Hodgson still has time though to salvage his side’s season, but that will require the Hornets to start putting points on the board as soon as possible.
Home matches like this one will be vital part of their survival, but they will have to work on their home form if they are pick points here. They have lost all their last nine home matches in a row and they desperately need to end this horrid run.
Meanwhile Brentford have been flying high lately which has come at the right time as they were on a seriously sticky and worrying patch earlier this season. Their inspired signing of Christian Eriksen has propelled the team into new heights and have now won four of their last five top flight matches, including the sensational thumping of Thomas Tuchel’s Chelsea at Stamford Bridge and the comfortable 2-0 victory over top-four seekers West Ham.
The fine run has seen the Bees rise to 13th place in the league standings, level on 36 points with 12th-placed Aston Villa and 14th-placed Southampton. They are however, just four points behind the ninth-placed Leicester City and another positive result on Saturday would see them break into the top-half of the table.
Thomas Frank’s men are unbeaten against Watford in their last three meetings and claimed a 2-1 victory when the two sides met earlier this season, and should therefore be confident of adding another nail in Watford’s coffin.
