Manchester United will be seeking to revenge for last season’s Europa League final defeat when they welcome Villareal to Old Trafford on Wednesday for Group F second matchday of the EUFA Champions League with kickoff at 22:00.
Manchester United have made a mixed-up start to their 2021-22 campaign as they have displayed flashes of genius a times but that has been followed up by passages of mediocrity and it appears like there is no in-between or consistence for the Red Devils who come into the clash of the back of back-to-back home defeats.
They suffered a 1-0 defeat at the hands of West Ham in in the EFL Cup and then proceeded to lose another 1-0 to Aston Villa on the weekend. The visitors took the lead at the 88th minute and the Ole Solskjaer’s side had a chance to level things up as they were awarded a last-minute penalty but the ever-reliable Bruno Fernandes couldn’t convert it condemning the hosts to their first league defeat this season.
The Red Devils also head into the match of the back of a 2-1 defeat against Yong Boys in their Champions League opening fixture where they were reduced to 10 men following a Wan Bissak red card. Young Boys were able to capitalize on the advantage winning the match 2-1 from behind.
Thus, Manchester United will be disparate for a win in the Wednesday’s match as they look to bounce back to winning ways.
Meanwhile Villarreal maintained their unbeaten run across all competitions last weekend when they held Real Madrid to a 0-0 draw. They have now played out six draws in their seven fixtures across all competitions this season so far and currently occupy the 11th spot with eight points in the La Liga standings.
The Yellow Submarine come into the match off the back of a 2-2 draw against Atalanta in their Champions league opener and will be looking to maintain they good run in the European football as they are currently unbeaten in their last 16 European matches the longest of team at the moment.
Therefore, this will a close match as both sides look to be evenly matched but Manchester United will fancy their chances here as they are more disparate for the win plus, they have a home advantage.
