Manchester United welcome Everton to the Old Trafford on Saturday for the seventh Premier League round with kickoff at 14:30.
Manchester United are fresh from Wednesday’s last-minute win over Villarreal in the Champions League and there was certainly pressure on the Red Devils to pick up a result at the Old Trafford but it appeared that Ole Solskjaer’s side were in for another frustrating night as Villarreal took the lead early in the second half and were the convincing side on the night. However, a brilliant volley from Alex Tales gave Manchester some life before Cristiano Ronaldo won the match in the 95th minute to give United a crucial win in their Champions League campaign.
United were in a poor form going into the match last Wednesday as they had just one win in four matches losing the other three so the win was indeed a key result for Ole Solskjaer’s men who despite the inconsistency in recent weeks started the Premier League campaign rather well and have collected 13 points from their opening six matches and sitting in the fourth spot. The record is an improvement for United as a year ago they were number 10 with 10 points.
However, United head into the match off the back of a disappointing 1-0 home defeat to Aston Villa in the Premier League last weekend and will need to bounce back this weekend as they have an incredibly tough October and November from their opponent’s strength point of view and thus a win against Everton will surely boost their confidence ahead of the difficult period.
Meanwhile, Everton started the season fantastically under the controversial manager Rafa Benitez, delivering some excellent results and have recorded four wins, a draw and one defeat in their opening six matches and currently occupy the fifth spot with 13 points.
The Toffees head into the match in a good form having just lost two of the last six matches across all competition winning all the other four, and are off a 2-0 win over an unconvincing Norwich City last weekend. Thus, Everton will be looking to keep their momentum and form with a positive result on the weekend but they face Man United who they have failed to beat in their last nine visits to Old Trafford.
The two sides met in a pre-season friendly at the start of August and Manchester United won 4-0, but a lot has changed since then plus the injuries bedeviled both sides and will fascinating to see how this plays out as both sides are on a level form.
