Manchester United will be looking to bounce back from a surprising defeat to QPR as they continue their pre-season preparations with a friendly tie against newly promoted Premier League outfit Brentford on Wednesday at the Old Trafford with kickoff at 22:00.
The Red Devils started off their pre-season preparations with a 2-1 win over Wayne Rooney’s Derby County before loosing 4-2 to a Championship outfit Queens Park Rangers. Jesse Lingard opened the scoring for Ole Solskjaer’s side in the fourth minute but the joy of the returned Lingard was short-lived as Charlie Austin levelled the match in the sixth minute. QPR would not stop their but proceeded to hammer United with three goals in six minutes with Moses Odubajo finding the net in between the Lyndon Dykes two goals. United could only find the net one more time through Anthony Elanga.
However, Ole is looking to strengthen his side going into the 2021-22 campaign with Jadon Sancho finishing his transfer from Borussia Dortmund and progress being made in the efforts to sign the Real Madrid defender Raphael Varane.
United will face Preston North End then Everton in their remaining pre-season friendlies before opening their campaign against old foes Leeds United on August 14.
Meanwhile, Brentford started off their preparations for their first ever Premier League campaign with a winning momentum which Thomas Frank will be looking to keep as they look to hit the ground running come August 13. Brentford already have four wins from their four away pre-season friendlies with Wimbledon, Boreham Wood, Cambridge United and Watford all being on the receiving end.
Thomas Frank fielded majority of his first team players in the 3-1 win over Watford last weekend and is expected to do the same in the tomorrow’s clash as he intends to follow in QPR’s footsteps. Brentford will also take on West Ham, Southend United and Valencia in their remaining friendly fixtures before opening their much awaiting EPL campaign against Arsenal on August 13.

With most of the first team players making their return to training this week and next week Solskjaer is most likely to field the same players who started in their last friendly with Lingard expected to start again as United try to fend off interests from West Ham.

Brentford have been busy in the market transfer with club welcoming the likes of Kristofer Ajer from Celtic, Frank Onyenka from Midtjylland, Mathew Cox from Wimbledon and Myles Peart-Harris from Chelsea. However, Mathias Jensen, Pontus Jansson and Christian Norgaard will be unavailable as they are on holiday from the Euros.
