Manchester city will continue their pre-season preparations this Saturday when they welcome Barnsley to their Academy Stadium for a behind-closed-doors friendly with kickoff at 20:00.
Manchester city opened their pre-season preparation with a 2-0 win over Preston North End on Tuesday with Pep Guardiola handing opportunities to up-coming starlets and a few of first team players including Riyad Mahrez who opened the scoring for Man City in the 25th minute before the 18-year-old attacker Samuel Edozie sealed Manchester City’s first win of the summer.
The Citizens’ match against fellow City Football Group outfit Troyes this weekend, at Troyes, was cancelled due to barriers caused by the Covid-19 pandemic and thus Guardiola’s side will instead stay at home to continue their preparation there.
Saturday’s clash will be Man City’s final pre-season friendly as the team builds toward their first competitive fixture against Leicester City in the Community shield on August 7th. However, the Citizens will travel to Camp Nou later in August for a charity fixture against Barcelona.
Meanwhile, Barnsley under the new management of Markus Schopp who took over from Valerien Ismael have played three pre-season friendlies so far with the new manager overseeing two back-to-back wins over Rochdale and Sheffield Wednesday to kickoff the summer in a high note. However, the Tykes couldn’t break Morecambe in a match that ended 0-0 despite Markus Schopp’s side dominating the match last Friday.
This will also be the final pre-season friendly for Barnsley before they travel to Cardiff City for their 2021-22 Championship opener on August 7.
