Mainz hopes to overturn their Bundesliga’s misfortunes that find them in the lower half this week when they take on Augsburg. The match is scheduled for Friday night at the Opel Arena, with kickoff at 9:45 pm.
In their last league match, the hosts lost to Borussia Dortmund 3-1. In the previous match, the guests tied with Arminia Bielefeld 1-1.
After five league games, Mainz 05 fans would have been happy about their performance, only three points behind the leaders and 10 points on the board.
However, since then, Bo Svensson’s team has suffered three losses in a row, bringing them to 11th.
Losing three games is not ideal for any team. The defeat against Bayer Leverkusen, Union Berlin, and Borussia Dortmund, three teams in the top seven of the Bundesliga last season, was probably expected for the 05.
On the other hand, Augsburg head coach Markus Weinzierl hoped his team could build on their 1-0 win over Borussia Mönchengladbach last month, but wins have been elusive.
Before they put down a disappointing draw, the Fuggerstädter suffered successive away defeats against Freiburg and Dortmund and drew Armenia below them in the relegation zone.
After Augsburg drew last weekend against Union Berlin, the Club slipped into the relegation playoff place after VfL Bochum scored all three points last weekend.
