Madagascar will be looking to register their first win in Group J of the CAF World Cup qualifiers when they go toe to toe for the second consecutive game with DR Congo at the Mahamasina Municipal Stadium on Sunday with kickoff at 19:00.
Madagascar have made a disappointing start to their World Cup qualifying campaign as they have lost all their opening three matches. They opened with a 1-0 defeat to Benin and then followed the disappointing 3-2 loss to Tanzania with Feisal Salum grabbing the winner in the 52nd minute following a thrilling first half that saw both sides net two goals each.
Madagascar now head into their second consecutive match with DR Congo who condemned them to their third consecutive defeat in group J with a 2-0 last Thursday, leaving them empty handed and rooted at the bottom of the group standings.
Nicolas Dupuis’ side head into the match in poor form having won none, drawn two and lost six of their last eight matches across all competitions conceding 15 goals while scoring six in that run. Dupuis will want his side to bounce back as they look to end this dry spell and get their campaign up and running but their face a rejuvenated DR Congo who have beaten them in three of their last four meetings.
Meanwhile DR Congo who are considered as the favorites of this group have made a slow start to their qualifying campaign picking up just one win in their opening three matches. However, the Leopards remain unbeaten in the group and currently sit in second spot with five points.
Dr Congo head into the match in a good form having just lost one of their last five matches across all competitions and hector Cuper will want his side to keep their momentum going as they the top finish and are confident of completing a double against Madagascar.
