Lyon vs Reims Match Analysis and Prediction

Lyon will be hosting Reims at the Groupama Stadium on Wednesday evening for the 16th round of Ligue 1 matches.

They are currently in good form and are sitting at position 7 in the table, having a game in hand, while Reims are down at the 14th spot and are coming into the game on the back of their first win in a while.

Lyon made an impressive performance with two victories in a span of three days.

They first won on the road 3-1 at Brondby in the Europa Conference League on Thursday, then 1-0 victory over Montpellier with Lucas Paqueta’s goal at the 17th minute.

Their match with Marseille last weekend was suspended after just five minutes of play when Dimitri Payet was hit by a bottle thrown from the stands.

That incident led to Les Gones being ordered to play home games behind closed doors until at least the 8th of December when a ruling will be made.

Actually, that is far from a new experience for a generation of players who have dealt with sport during a pandemic, but Peter Bosz hopes his players have not become entirely reliant of home support.

However, he will be assured by Reims’ away record which leaves a lot to be desired.

Reims have managed just one win from eight matches on the road, although four of those have ended in draws.

Their most recent match was in the Stade Auguste-Delaune II and resulted in a last minute victory over Clermont, with Ghislain Konan’s goal in the 91st minute.

That was Reims’ first win since September and will have gone a long way to make up for thier draw seven days before, when Strasbourg equalised in the 96th minute.

Reims still have a lot of work, with just three points clear of the relegation playoff spot in a congested bottom half table.

Despite playing without home support, Lyon should be having enough power to perform better than the visitors.

Reims are currently not fairing on well on the road being unable to register victories recently. So we predict the victory to remain with the home team even if narrow.
