Paris Saint-Germain will be looking to extend their unbeaten run to nine matches on the bounce across all competitions when they make a trip to Groupama Stadium to take on a struggling Lyon in the first match on the second half of the French Ligue 1 on Sunday night with kickoff at 23:00.
Lyon had a difficult first half campaign this season with the club being on and off and have recorded six wins, seven draws and five defeats from their 19 Ligue 1 matches, collecting 24 points that have them sitting in the bottom half of the table in the 13th with eight points above the relegation zone.
Having failed to adequately replace Memphis Depay over the summer, Lyon sure are paying the price, with Bosz’s side currently closer to the relegation zone than they are to the top three.
They head into the match in a poor form having won just one of their last six across all competitions and are coming off a four-match drawing streak with three draws coming in Ligue 1 against Bordeaux, Lille and Metz.
Therefore it’s clear that Lyon will be desperate to get the second of the season on a positive note and they need to spark an immediate turnaround in order to challenge for European finish and save Bosz’s bacon.
Meanwhile Paris Saint-Germain dominated in the first half of the season in France, with club recording 14 wins, four draws and just one defeat from their 19 matches and currently sit 13 points clear at the top of the Ligue 1 table and ended 2021 on a positive note with a seven-match unbeaten run.
The Parisians began 2022 with a Covid-19 outbreak with Leonel Messi being among those who tested positive for the virus. However, that was no issue for Mauricio Pochettino’s side who claimed a 4-0 victory over Vannes in the Coupe de France on Monday with Kylian Mbappe showcasing his class as he gagged an 18-minute hat trick in the second half.
Back to Ligue 1 PSG will be looking to continue their dominance in the league as they aim at restoring their reign having lost their title glory last season to Lille. They will fancy their chances on Sunday having lost none of their last five away matches and they won 2-1 against Lyon in the reverse fixture back I September.
