Lyon will be keen to return to winning ways winning ways when they host Angers in their Ligue 1 Matchday 30 tie on Sunday evening with kickoff at 18:05.
Lyon have made a disappointing Ligue 1 campaign this season with the club claiming just 11 victories from 29 league matches, while drawing 10 and suffering nine defeats in the process. They continued the inconsistency last time out as they played out a goalless draw against Reims prior to the international break.
Les Gones have now won just two of their last seven matches across all competitions while have won just one of their last five Ligue 1 games, suffering two defeats in the run. As a result Peter Sylvester Bosz’s side languish in the middle of the table with six points outside the European spots and eight outside the top four.
However, it has been horrible for Lyon everywhere as have moved into the quarter-finals of the Europa League, thanks to a 2-1 on aggregate win over Porto in the last-16. They will fight West Ham over two-legs for a place in the semi-finals and the first leg is next Thursday.
Therefore as much as need points in Ligue 1 this weekend, they also need to boost their confidence ahead of their trip to London.
Meanwhile, Angers has also heard their fair share of disappointment this season, with the side claiming just eight victories and eight draws from 29 matches, while suffering 13 defeats in the process, and they have only won one of their last seven leagues matches – suffering six defeats in the run.
They currently sit 14th in the bottom half with just a five-point gap between themselves and St-Etienne, who occupy the relegation-playoff spot. They will therefor need to pick points to stay away from the danger zone.
Gerard Baticle’s side will draw confidence from their previous league fixture which saw them edge Brest a narrow 1-0 victory that ended their six-match losing streak. They also claimed a solid 3-0 win against Lyon in the reverse fixture earlier this season.
