Liverpool will look to continue to put pressure on Premier League leaders Manchester City when they host top-four challengers West Ham United at Anfield in a crucial league match on Saturday night with kickoff at 20:30.
Liverpool will return to Premier League action in high spirits after scooping the first piece of silverware of the season by overcoming Chelsea in a dramatic penalty shootout at Wembley last Sunday. The Reds then preceded to a book a place in the quarter-finals of the FA Cup after beating Norwich City 2-1 at Anfield last Wednesday night.
Back to the Premier League Jurgen Klopp’s side were on a good run and their previous league match ended with them thumping Leeds United 6-0 at Anfield, making it six top-flight wins in a row – a run that has seen them get closer to Man City at the summit of the table. Klopp’s side sit second, six points behind the champions with a game in hand, and 10 points above Chelsea who have played one match less.
Therefore, the Liverpool will be looking to keep the pressure on Guardiola’s City with another positive result on Saturday. They will fancy their chances having not lost to West Ham in their last six encounters at Anfield, and they are also in a fine home form this season as they remain unbeaten at home. They have won 10 and drew three of their 13 matches in front of their fans this term.
The Hammers on the other hand return to the Premier League in a bad mood after missing out on the last eight of the FA Cup following a 3-1 defeat at the hands of Southampton at St Mary’s last Wednesday night.
However, back to the Premier League West Ham got their quest for Champions League finish back on track following a hard-fought 1-0 win over Wolves last weekend.
The win saw them climb back to the top-five, although they are level on 45 points with the sixth-place Arsenal, and have played three matches more than the Gunners.
With just two points keeping them outside the top four Moyes troops will be looking to cause an upset here and they will draw confidence from their 3-2 win over their hosts in the reverse fixture earlier this season.
