Following their success in the first-leg of the last 16 of the Champions League, Liverpool return to the Premier League looking to continue putting pressure on Manchester City in the title race when they welcome a relegation-threatened Norwich City to Anfield on Saturday evening with kickoff at 18:00.
With goals from familiar sources Roberto Firmino and Mohamed Salah Liverpool were able to overcome Inter Milan in the first-leg of the last-16 of the Champions League at san Siro last Wednesday night. The victory is a massive confidence boost for Jurgen Klopp’s side who have now won all their last seven matches on the trot in all competitions.
Now the Reds turn their focus to the Premier League where they are fighting desperately to cling on to the pace setters Manchester City in the race for the title, they trail the leaders by some nine points having played one match less and they need to continue winning to keep the pressure on the leaders.
They edged Burnley in a hard fought 1-0 win in their last league match with Fabinho’s halftime tap in proving to be enough to separate the two sides and facing another relegation-threatened side the reds will fancy their chances picking a routine win here.
Meanwhile Norwich City, despite seeming to be headed for an immediate return to the Championship, they have certainly appeared to be ready to fight for their survival under Dean Smith with seven points from their available 12 recently getting them off the foot of the table.
At some point Dean Smith had his new side out of the relegation zone but a 1-1 draw against Crystal Palace and a 4-0 thumping by Man City last weekend has them slide back into the drop zone and are now four points adrift of safety.
The Canaries therefore will be looking to return to winning ways as they continue to fight for survival but they face an uphill task this weekend as they travel to Anfield to take on a title-chasing and highly determined Liverpool side. They haven’t won in any of their last 16 matches against the Merseysiders and have lost in all their last five meetings in row while failing to score in the last three.
