Brendan Rodgers makes a quick return to Anfield as his side Leicester City prepare to face the Merseyside giants Liverpool for their Thursday’s Premier League clash.
Liverpool secured their place in the fifth round of the FA Cup by defeating Cardiff City 3-1 at the weekend, while Leicester were humbled by Nottingham Forest.
Jurgen Klopp was glad with his side’s comfortable victory over Cardiff in the FA Cup, especially with Harvey Elliott’s return, with the 18-year old bagging his Reds goal after nearly five months on the sidelines with a horrific ankle injury.
With Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah also primed to return from AFCON duty in the near future, the Reds are well-positioned to push Manchester City all the way in the title race, currently sitting nine points adrift of the champions with a game in hand.
The Reds, who have now recorded four wins in a row across all competitions, will be facing Chelsea in the EFL Cup later this month, and Klopp will welcome his side scoring at least two goals in all four of those wins without Mane and Salah leading the charge.
Meanwhile, Brendan Rodgers witnessed his side kicked out of the FA Cup, with Steve Cooper seeing his Nottingham Forest side run out a comfortable 4-1 victory over Leicester at the City Ground.
Goals from Ben Johnson, Philip Zinckernagel, Joe Worrall and right-back Djed Spence were enough to sink the defending champions, and even with a consolation from Kelechi Iheanacho, Rodgers admitted to be embarrassed by the display.
However, Leicester managed to sink Liverpool 1-0 at the King Power back in December, with Ademola Lookman being the hero of the hour for the hosts, and the Foxes pushed the Reds all the way in the EFL Cup before ultimately bowing out on penalties after a 3-3 draw.
