Lens vs Marseille Match Analysis and Prediction

Ligue 1 will see two teams get back to action whem Marseille will travel north to face Lens at the Stade Bollaert-Delelis on Saturday evening in gameweek 22.

The hosts have won in all their matches played so far in 2022, while the visitors dropped points for the first time last week.

However, all about Lens’ performance at the end of 2021 was not impressive, as Franck Haise’s side suffered a dismal festive period which saw them go six Ligue 1 games without a victory.

Their change of fortunes was perhaps inspired by their turnaround in their first game of the year, as they came from two down to cruise past Lille in the Coupe de France.

Seko Fofana was the hero at the weekend, scoring a stoppage-time winner as his side came from behind to defeat Saint-Etienne and move back into contention fro the Champions League spots, now just two points adrift of fourth-placed Strasbourg and four behind Marseille.

Entering the fixture off the back of three victories in their last four games, Marseille would have been confident of beating a Lille side whose poor title defence had them stuck in midtable.

However, they found themselves one down after just a quarter of an hour, with Sven Botman being able to head home Renato Sanches’ corner.

Despite the visitors being reduced to 10 men shortly after, it took over an hour before Cengiz Under scored the equaliser, and Les Dogues were then able to hang on until the final whistle.

That result saw them slip two points behind Nice, with Paris Saint-Germain now 13 points ahead of them at the summit.

Les Olympiens must now focus on a return to the top table of European football and ensure they secure a top four spot. A loss this weekend could be catastrophic.

After their impressive comeback victory last weekend, Haise is not likely to make a lot of changes to the side that started against Saint-Etienne.

However, Florian Sotoca should come back into the starting XI after scoring a vital goal off the bench in their last match on Saturday.

Marseille news

After joining from Arsenal during the week, Sead Kolasinac could come straight in the matchday squad, but could not make it to the starting lineup.

Arkadiusz Milik returned from a knock to feature against Lille, but after failing to score, his place could be under threat from Cedric Bakambu at the weekend.

Marseille will enter this contest with a record of seven-game unbeaten run in all competitions, which must have given them enogh confidence for this fixture. Lens have recently been impressive at home, and we do not expect them to fail here, which could lead to a draw at the end of the game.
