DFB Pokal winners RB Leipzig and Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich will lock horns in the DFL Supercup at the Red Bull Arena on Saturday night.
Leipzig had their ups and downs last season but managed to finish fourth in the Bundesliga and claimed the DFB-Pokal title after beating Freiburg 4-2 on penalties.
The Red Bulls have been inconsistent in their pre-season and are coming off a bitter 5-0 defeat to Liverpool in their final pre-season friendly.
They will therefore need to make amends ahead of the fixture, as they hope to bounce back on Saturday and build their confidence ahead of their Bundesliga opener against Stuttgart on August 07.
Meanwhile, Bayern Munich successfully defended their Bundesliga crown last season, beating their closest rivals Borussia Dortmund by eight points in the title race.
Their target this season will to be to retain the Bundesliga title and have a good stub at the Champions League. However, the Germany powerhouses have seen their main man Robert Lewandowsky leave the club for Barcelona, but they have since bolstered their ranks with the likes of Sadio Mane and Matthijs de Ligt arriving from Liverpool and Juventus respectively.
The Barvarians slumped to a 1-0 defeat to Manchester City in their final pre-season match and will need to bounce back this weekend as they build towards their Bundesliga opener against Frankfurt on August 05.
