Both Leeds and Tottenham will be looking to bounce back to winning ways when they lock horns at Elland Road in an important Premier League Matchday 27 encounter on Saturday afternoon with kickoff at 15:30.
Leeds United are coming off a humiliating 6-0 defeat at the hands of title-chasers Liverpool at Anfield in their midweek fixture, with Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane both striking braces for the Merseysiders, while defenders Joe Matip and Virgil van Dijk also getting in on the scoresheet.
The Whites have now gone five matches without a win, picking up a draw while suffering four defeats in the process and a as a result, Marcelo Bielsa’s side have dropped into the 15th spot in the rankings and the threat of relegation is starting to worry Bielsa who admitted it after the Anfield thumping.
Their defence has been a major issue for Bielsa, with his leaky backline conceding a tally of 56 goals throughout the campaign which represents the worst defensive record in the Premier League this term and 16 of those came in their last four games where they have lost their last three in succession.
Only three points separate Leeds with the relegation zone and therefore they will be looking to pull off a surprise result against Tottenham, but Bielsa will need to address his defensive issues if they are to claim all three points.
Meanwhile Tottenham Hotspur’s confidence took a heavy blow in midweek as they suffered a 1-0 defeat to 18th-placed Burnley. Spurs largely struggled to test Nick Pope with Harry Kane rattling the woodwork and a resilient Burnley stood firm and earned maximum points through Ben Mee’s header in the 71st minute.
Now the Lilywhites have only one of their last five Premier League matches and the defeat opened the gap between them and the top-four to seven points, but they still have two matches in hand on fourth-placed Manchester United.
That means that a defeat on Saturday could be fatal to their top-four ambitions plus it leave Antonio Conte’s job at jeopardy with the Italian manager admitting that the club should make an assessment on his future. Therefore Conte will be desperate for his side to claim the maximum points in the match but Spurs have lost on their last two visits to Elland Road but they will draw confidence from their 2-1 win against Bielsa’s men in the reverse fixture.
