South Korea will be looking to seal their place at the World Cup finals in Qatar when they visit Saida Municipal Stadium to take on Lebanon in the seventh Group A fixture on Thursday afternoon with kickoff at 15:00.
South Korea have made a strong third round qualifying campaign as they are unbeaten in their six opening Group A matches, claiming four wins and two draws in the process. They currently sit second on 14 points in the group standings, two points behind group leaders Iran and eight points above the third-placed UAE.
The Tigers of Asia now just need four points from their remaining four matches to confirm their automatic finish and will fancy to earn three of those in the Thursday’s game as they head into the match in a good form, having lost none of their last 11 matches across all competitions and are coming off a four-match winning streak including the 4-0 win over Moldova in the warm up friendly on Friday. Also they have not lost to their hosts in their last six meetings, claiming four wins and two draws in the run.
Meanwhile Lebanon have struggled in this third round of qualifiers with the side claiming just one win from their six Group A matches while picking two draws and suffering three defeats in the process. They currently fourth on five points in the standing with just one point behind the third-placed United Arabs Emirates.
That means that Lebanon still have chances of qualifying to Qatar come November through playoffs if they are to turn around their fortunes in the group. Therefore they will be looking to build on their 1-0 win over Sudan in the Arab Cup back in December as they at pulling a surprise win here to boost their qualification claim. The win against Sudan saw them bounce back from a four-match losing streak across all competition and they will want to make it back-to-back.
