Lazio vs Venezia Match Analysis and Prediction

Lazio aim to continue their quest for a return to European competition when they welcome Venezia to Stadio Olimpico on Monday.

Sitting seventh in the Serie A standings, the hosts are looking to build on a comprehensive victory last week, while Venezia are stuck in the bottom three after nini matches without a win.

While Maurizio Sarri is renowned for his expansive approach, he has built much of that progress on an improving defensive record, and the Biancocelesti have kept five clean sheets since the turn of the year.

Under both Sarri and his immediate predecessor Simone Inzaghi, Le Aquile have generally been taking on visitors on Roman soil, winning 17 of 19 at the Olimpico in Serie A prior to a recent downturn in fortunes.

Ahead of Venezia’s visit, Lazio have won only two of their last seven home league matches, and will be keen to re-establish their previous supremacy against a struggling away side.

Having alread exited the Coppa Italia and Europa League, all that Lazio have left to fight for is a top-six finish, which means they will not let an ailing opponent deny them maximum points.

Having lost 3-1 in December’s reverse fixture at Stadio Pier Luigi Penzo, Venezia have never won in their 10 away games against Lazio in Serie A, losing eight times in the process.

Therefore, a much-needed victory seems not potntially going to comes from this fixture, given an awful run of results since the end of November.

Following last week’s 4-1 defeat by Sassuolo, they have recorded just seven points from their last 14 games, and with nine losses coming during that spell.

The odds are stacked against the Arancioneroverdi, as after conceding seven goals in their last two games, Venezia have leaked 51 in total this season, which could hinder their success against Lazio.

Lazio news

Lazio’s Danilo Cataldi remains unavailable, which will allow Lucas Leiva to continue in the three-man midfield, while Adam Marusic is sidelined through suspension after his red card last week.

Therefore, Patric and Stefan Radu may be required to deputise, but Elseid Hysaj is another contender to start for the Monday’s game.

Venezia news

First choice goalkeeper Sergio Romero has undergone a minor knee surgery this week, while Luca Lezzerini was recently ruled out until the end of the season, which will give Niki Maenpaa an opportunity between the sticks.

Forward Mattia Aramu will also miss out on Monday due to accumulation of yellow cards.

Prediction and Odds

Venezia will be looking for a much-needed victory to keep their hopes of remaining in the top flight alive, and they may pose a tough test for Lazio.

However, despite their recent poor record, we believe the hosts are the better team in this fixture, and we expect a home victory.
