Juventus will be looking to put behind their Super Cup heartache behind them when they welcome Udinese to the Allianz Stadium for the late Serie A fixture on Saturday night with kickoff at 22:45.
Juventus were dramatically edged out in a high-stakes Derby d’Italia on Wednesday evening as they fell to a 2-1 defeat in the Supercoppa Italiana to their close rivals Inter Milan. Inter came from behind to deny the Old Lady their 10th Super Cup glory with Alexis Sanchez scoring with the last kick of the match to give the Nerazzurri their first Super Cup title since 2010.
However, prior to the defeat the Bianconeri were on upward trajectory in the Serie A with the side recording a seven-match unbeaten run in the league, with their last win being a memorable one as they battled from behind to edge Roma 4-3 at the Stadio Olimpico, scoring three goals in a period of seven minutes.
The win saw them climb six points above Roma and currently sit in the fifth spot on 38 points just three behind the fourth-placed Atalanta who have a match in hand. And with 11 points separating them with Inter Milan at the summit of the league with a game in hand, Juve will be looking to continue their up trajectory in desperate attempt to reduce the gap.
However, the majority of their victories have come on the road, and Juve rank only ninth in the division in terms of home form before Udinese’s arrival at the Allianz Stadium, but have won all of their last five meeting against Udinese in Turin and they will fancy their chances of continuing that form on Saturday.
Meanwhile, Udinese have made have been on and off this season and are stuck in the 14th spot with 20 points collected from their 19 matches and are just four points above the relegation zone but have two matches in hand.
They opened 2022 in a poor way, especially having ended 2021 in such high spirits after thumping Cagliari with a 4-0 win at away, as they fell to a 6-2 thumping to Atalanta at home last Sunday. The defeat summed their form this season recently as their win against Cagliari is their only win in their last seven Serie A matches.
With relegation battle starting to move closer Udinese need to start picking up points if they are to avoid the daunting battle and will be looking to cause an upset here as they aim at staying far from the relegation zone, but they face Juventus at away where they have failed to win in their last six visits.
