Jamaica vs Mexico Match Analysis and Prediction

Jamaica will play host to Mexico on Friday as they will be looking to extend their unbeaten World Cup 2022 qualifying run to five games.

Meanwhile, the visistors will be looking to get their campaign back on track after suffering successive defeats in their previous two qualifying matches.

Even though they avoided defeat in their last four World Cup qualifiers, Jamaica are still seven points adrift of the playoff spot, and require a large scoop of points from their last six games if they are to keep their hopes of a second World Cup appearance alive.

Jamaica have drawn three of their last four competitve matches, while both of their previous two qualifying games have finished in a 1-1 scoreline.

The Reggae Boyz followed an away draw against El Salvador with a point at home against the United States, after Michail Antonio scored to cancel out Timothy Weah’s opener.

Their only victory so far in the third round of qualifying came in Honduras, and if they are to pose a challenge to the top four then they need to start recording wins at home, especially as four of their final six fixture will take place at home.

Meanwhile, Mexico’s hunt to qualify for an eighth successive World Cup has hit the rocks in recent matches, after suffering back-to-back defeats in November.

They fell to a 2-0 away defeat in United States before they lost 2-1 to Canada in their previous competitive match, with Cyle Larin grabbing a brace to sink El Tri despite Hector Herrera’s effort.

Mexico will be confident of troubling the Jamaica defence, having scored in seven of their eight World Cup Qualifiers.

Friday’s contest offers Mexico the opportunity to claim a qualifying double over the Reggae Boyz after claiming a 2-1 victory in the reverse fixture through Henry Martin’s 89th-minute winner.

Jamaica news

Jamaica will miss the services of Leon Bailey who is currently absent with an injury, while Antonio will be one of their main goal threats on Friday.

Paul Hall has a number of options in defence and could opt to choose a centre back pairing of Ethan Pinnock and Liam Moore.

Mexico news

Mexico’s Raul Jimenez will be absent due to a calf injury, which could present a starting opportunity for Rogelio Funes Mori.

Hirving Lozano will also be absent as he is set to serve a one-match suspension, while Martino could chose a front three made up of Funes Mori, Jesus Corona and Alexis Vega.

Prediction and Odds

Mexico will head into Friday’s fixture without a number of key players, which could play to the advantage of their hosts who are in dire need of points.

But with three of their last four competitve matches ending level, we see the Reggae Boyz fight to secure at least a point at home.
