Iran welcome Lebanon to Imam Reza Stadium for their final 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifying tie on Tuesday afternoon with kickoff at 14:30.
The two sides head into the match with their fates concerning the World Cup qualification already sealed and thus there will be little to play for in this clash.
Iran have already qualified for the competition finals in November in Qatar as they sit second in Group A of the AFC World Cup Qualifiers with 22 points from nine matches, some 13 points ahead of the third-placed UAE with only one game remaining.
Although, they head into the Tuesday’s clash in sour mood following a 2-0 defeat to South Korea in their last qualifying fixture on Thursday at the Seoul World Cup Stadium. The defeat saw them fall one point behind the Koreans in the group standings and will hoping to restore their position with a positive result on Tuesday.
The Lions of Persia are huge favorites to emerge victorious on Tuesday following their fine home that has seen go unbeaten in over three years and they have a good head to head record against their opponents.
Meanwhile Lebanon are as good as eliminated from the World Cup qualifications as they sit fifth in Group A with only six points from nine matches so far. They sit three points behind the third-placed UAE with a huge negative goal difference which gives them very minimal chances of finishing third and advancing to the playoffs.
The Cedars head into the match in a poor form having failed to win in any of their last three qualifying matches, while winning just one of their last six matches across all competitions and are coming off a 3-0 defeat to Syria at home last Thursday.
They will there be looking to bounce back to winning ways as they eye the playoff spot, although will hope that the results go their way elsewhere, while hope to bag at least five goals in the process in ths match.
