With Serie A 2021/22 campaign nearing its conclusion, reigning champions Inter Milan will be looking to take another step towards defending their title when they welcome Roma to San Siro for their Matchday 34 tie on Saturday evening with kickoff at 19:00.
Inter Milan had a tricky spell in February with several points dropped which saw them drop into third in Serie A. However they look to aim at a strong finish to the season now and they have already won their last three league matches against Juventus (0-1), Verona (2-0) and Spezia (3-1).
The run has seen them climb back in second and it has also allowed them to put more pressure on their city rivals Ac Milan who lead the league with two points in the clear, although Inter have a game in hand. In addition, Simeone Inzaghi’s side has certainly taken a psychological advantage over Milan by beating them in last Tuesday’s semi-final of the Coppa Italia with a commanding 3-0 victory.
With the Nerazzurri now buzzing in confidence, they should fancy their chances against Roma a side they are unbeaten against in their last nine Serie A matches. Also, a win will take them to the summit of standings which will put more pressure on AC Milan – something that could work in their favor in the race to retain their title.
Meanwhile, Roma have also been pretty solid this year with the side maintaining an unbeaten run in Serie A since the beginning of January a run that has seen them climb into fifth with now just five points behind Juventus who sit fourth. That means that they are still in contention for a Champions League place finish, although with just five matches remaining the capital club will need to put more efforts.
They head into game in good mood with the side going unbeaten in their last three matches across all competitions, booking a place in the semi-finals of the Europa Conference League in the run, while boosting their confidence with a 1-1 draw against another Scudetto chasers Napoli.
However, the Giallorossi have actually failed to win at San Siro against Inter Milan since 2017 and with the champions being in desperate need of the points, it will be challenging for Roma to take home something this weekend.
