Hellas Verona vs Sampdoria Match Analysis and Prediction

Hellas Verona will play host to Sampdoria at Stadio Bentegodi on Sunday, with the two sides looking for their first win of the Serie A season.

In midweek, both teams fought back to settle for a share of the spoils, with Sampdoria’s equaliser coming deep into stoppage time as home to Lazio.

After trailing at half time against Empoli on Wednesday, Hellas Verona struck back midway through the second half, as substitutes Yayah Kallon scored on his debut, converting a cross from another summer signingn Josh Doig.

As a result, the Scaligeri have put two points on the board so far, having lost twice in Serie A in addition to exiting the Coppa Italia at the beginning of last month.

Gabriele Cioffi now needs a result to please the Gialloblu faithful, who have witnessed three league and cup defeats already and seen their team ship ten goals in the process.

Since falling to a 2-0 defeat in October 2019, Sampdoria have enjoyed four wins from five and have also won three of their last six encounters against the hosts at the Bentegodi. However, they arrive in Verona this time in similar shape to the opponents, also having collected just two points in Serie A so far.

Following a late goal from Manolo Gabbiadini to pick up a point against Lazio in midweek, head coach Marco Giampaolo has seen his side hold two top sides in recent weeks, but also suffer a 4-0 defeat to Salernitana.

That loss in Salerno represents Sampdoria’s ninth from 11 away matches throughout 2022, and they also failed to score in eight of those matches, an issue which Giampaolo has failed to fix since his return to the dugout earlier this year, with limited resources. However, the Bluecerchiati board moved to bring in Harry Winks on loan from Tottenham Hotspur.

Hellas Verona news

While Verona may once again be without Roberto Pisccoli due to injury, Yayah Kallon could be included in the front line, while Thomas Henry and Kevin Lasagna have been the established front pair this season.

The hosts signed Australia international Ajdin Hrustic from Eintracht Frankfurt could feature as a second-half substitute.

Sampdoria news

Manolo Gabbiadini may be ready for his first Sampdoria start since returning from injury, and will vie with Francesco Caputo to replace Fabio Quagliarella up front for the visitors.

Andrea Conti is still struggling with an injury, while Harry Winks will start on the bench but should make his debut at some stage.

Hellas Verona have lost each of their last four Serie A home matches, but they have never suffered five defeats in a row at the Bentegodi in their top-flight history.
