Guinea vs Malawi Match Analysis and Prediction

Malawi will be looking to pick up two straight wins and extend their lead at the top of Group D, when they visit the General Lansana Conte Stadium to take on Guinea in the 2023 AFCON qualifiers on Thursday.

Guinea, who are currently on a run of five matches without a win across all competitions, will set out to end that poor run and get their campaign up and running.

Syli National were denied a dream start to their Africa Cup of Nations qualification campaign when they fell to a narrow 1-0 defeat away to Egypt on Sunday.

After holding the Pharaohs goalless for most of the game, Mostafa Mohamed scored in the 89th minute to put the hosts ahead at the Cairo International Stadium.

Guinea head into Thursday’s contest winless in each of their last five matches, claiming two draws and losing three, including a 1-0 defeat against Gambia in the round of 16 of the 2022 AFCON back in January.

Kaba Diawara’s side, who are eyeing a third consecutive appearance at the continental showpiece, now face an opposing side who they are unbeaten against in three consecutive meetings between the teams since a 2-1 loss in 2009.

Meanwhile, Malawi got their hunt for spot at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations finals on a positive note at the defeated Ethiopia 2-1 on home soil last Sunday.

Gabadinho Mhango scored a brace in the first half to give the hosts the lead at the Bingu National Stadium, before Abubeker Nasir pulled one back for Ethiopia in the 68th minute.

Malawi are now unbeaten in three of their last four matches, claiming two wins and one draw while scoring five goals and conceding three in that time.

However, Mario Marinica’s side are currently on an eight-game winless run across all competitions at home.

Guinea news

Forward Serhou Guirassy was handed his international debut against Egypt last time out and he should retain his place in the starting XI.

Aguibou Camara, who boasts three goals in 12 senior caps, should provide extra threat up top alongside Thierno Barry, while Naby Keita should start in midfield once again.

Malawi news

Gabadinho Mhango put on a show in the opener against Ethiopia on Sunday and the forward should spearhead the attack once again.

He should be supported in the final third by Stan Davie, while Abate could stick with his three-man midfield of Chimwemwe Idana, Gerald Phiri and John Christopher Banda.

Prediction and Odds

Malawi will be looking to build on their opening-day victory, but they have struggled for results away from home, where they have lost each of their last two matches.

We predict the hosts will make amends for their defeat against Egypt last time out and come away with a win on Thursday.
