Egypt will be looking to get their AFCON campaign up and running on their second attempt when they lock horns with Guinea-Bissau at the Roumde Adjia Stadium on Saturday night with kickoff at 22:00.
Guinea-Bissau missed out on their dream start to the Africa Cup of Nations when they were held to a goalless draw by a resilient Sudan side on Tuesday. They blew their chances of claiming the three points when Pele missed an 82nd-minute penalty, with Sudan’s Ali Abdullah Abou pulling a brilliant save to force a share of the spoils.
Prior Baciro Cande’s side was coming off back-to-back 0-0 draws against Guinea and Sudan in the World Cup qualifiers. It also, marked their fifth winless match in a row across all competitions and they will be looking to end their dry spell on Saturday.
They currently sit in the second place, level on one point with fourth-placed Sudan and a win in this clash will might leave them at the top of the group and increase their chances of making it into the knockout stages.
Meanwhile in a heavyweight clash in the opening fixture of the group, Egypt fell to a 1-0 defeat at the hands of Nigeria last Tuesday.
The defeat marked their third loss in a row across all competitions, which is their longest losing streak since 2018 and the seven-time champions now find themselves at the bottom of the Group D standings and risk an early exit from the tournament.
The Pharaohs will need nothing but a win in the Saturday’s match if they are to stand a chance of making it out of the group and with Guinea-Bissau also needing a win we should expect a fascinating match here.
Guinea-Bissau vs Egypt head to head
This will be the first meeting the two sides and considering the occasion we expect a close fight that might end with a draw or a 1-0 win for either sides.
