Victor Pereira’s Fenerbahce will be looking to extend their unbeaten run in the Super Lig to three matches now when they make a trip to Gursel Aksel Stadium to face a struggling Nestro El Maestro’s Goztepe on Monday night with kickoff at 20:00.
Indeed Goztepe has experienced a tough 2021/22 Super Lig campaign as the club has just managed to record two victories in their 13 league matches so far this season, picking up four draws while suffering seven defeats in the process. Maestro’s side currently occupy the 18th spot in the relegation zone with 10 points registered to their name and are three points adrift off safety.
The hosts come into the match in a poor form as they just managed just one win in their last six matches, but avoided a second consecutive defeat last time out when they came from behind to salvage a 1-1 draw against Kayserispor on road last weekend. Thus they will be looking to build on their performance in that match as they aim at climbing out of the danger zone.
Meanwhile Fenerbahce have made a fairly strong Super Lig campaign this season as they have recorded seven wins, two draws and four defeats in their 13 league matches so far, collecting 23 points which have left them occupying the fifth spot in the standings with just one point outside the Champions League places.
Pereira’s side head into the match in poor form though as they have just claimed two victories in their last six matches across all competitions and are coming off a slender 1-0 defeat at the hands of Greek side Olympiacos in the Europa League last Thursday. The defeat saw Fenerbahce get knocked out of the Europa League having recorded one win, two draws and one defeat in their opening four matches, meaning they needed all the three points from the fixture to keep their qualification chances alive.
The visitors will turn their focus to the Super Lig now where they managed to bounce back to winning ways after a four-match winless run with an impressive Intercontinental Derby win against Galatasaray at the Nef Stadyumu last weekend, with goals from Kerem Akturkoglu, Mesut Ozil and Miguel Crespo sealing the important 3-2 success. Therefore they will be looking to build on the win as they aim at overtaking Alanyaspor to the Champions league last spot.
