Gil Vicente vs Portimonense Match Analysis and Prediction

The Primeira Liga will see two teams separated by just two points and two places square off on Sunday when Gil Vicente will host Portimonense at the Estadio Cidade de Barcelos.

The hosts will enter the fixture fresh off the back of seeing their two-game winning run come to an end, while Portimonense are without a victory in any of their last four outings across all competitions.

Gil Vicente failed to record a third win on the bounce for the first time this season last Saturday whenthey were held to 1-1 draw by Boavista at the Estadio do Bessa.

Before that, Gil Vicente cruised to an impressive 3-0 victory at Tondela on December 28 before seeig off Vitoria de Gimaraes 3-2 in their first outing of the new year two weeks later.

Following a rough start to the season where they managed just two wins from their opening nine outings, Ricardo Soares will be glad of his side’s turnaround as they head into Sunday’s game with four victories and one draw from their last six matches.

Gil Vicente have now won seven, drawn six and lost five of their 18 games so far to collect 27 points and sit fifth in the Primeira Liga stsndings, five points behind Braga in the first Conference League qualification spot.

Meanwhile, Portimonense put on an impressive show of fighting spirirt as they came from one goal down to salvage a late 1-1 draw against Vitoria de Guimaraes.

Prior to that, the Alvinegros were on a run of three straight defeat across all competitions, including a 4-2 defeat against Mafra on January 13 which saw their Taca de Portugal campaign come to an end.

Portimonense’s struggle for form has been owing to their defensive weaknesses as they have conceded 10 goals in their last four matches.

Gil Vicente will be without the services of Brazilian midfielder Joao Afonso, who continues his long way to full fitness after sustaining a severe injury last April.
