Gil Vcente play host to Pacos de Ferreira at the Estadio Cidade de Barcelos in round 31 of the Primeira Liga on Saturday, as they will be looking to put an end to their four-game winless run.
The hosts will also be looking to record a first league double over their visitors since 2014, having claimed a 1-0 victory when the sides met in the December’s reverse fixture.
The Gilistas put on a resilient display last Friday when they came from behind twice to salvage a 2-2 draw with Famalicao at the Estadio Municipal de Famalicao.
While head coach Ricardo Soares will be satisfied with the point, having been in a losing position twice, his side have now failed to win in four consecutive matches; their longest winless run since going six games without a win last October.
They have claimed 12 victories, 11 draws and seven losses in their 30 matches, collecting 47 points to sit fifth in the Primeira Liga standings, five points above Vitoria de Guimaraes just outside the final Conference League qualification spot.
Gil Vicente will need to improve in form as soon as possible as they eye their best-ever top-flight record, which came in the 1999-2000 campaign, when they finished fifth in the table.
Meanwhile, Pacos de Ferreira were on the receiving end of a 4-0 loss when they faced Vitoria de Guimaraes at the Estadio Dom Afonso Henriques last Friday.
Tiago Silva and Bruno Duarte scored first-half goals to give the hosts the lead, and after Duarte rebounded home Andre Almeida’s 67th-minute penalty, Ruben Lameiras found the back of the net with three minutes left to play to secure the victory.
Cesar Peixeto’s side enter Saturday’s contest on a run of two defeats from their last three matches, with both losses coming on the road.
