The Serie A is back in action this weekend, with matchday 23 featuring important fixtures including Genoa vs Udinese at Luigi Ferraris on Saturday evening wit kickoff at 17:00.
Genoa are in a crisis as they are seeking their second win of the campaign on their 23rd ask and the match will be overseen by their third manager this season. Genoa parted ways with Davide Ballardini after posting just one win in 12 Serie A matches and in his place a high-profile Andriy Shevchenko was appointed.
Shevchenko oversaw nine Serie A matches as Genoa’s boss and 11 across all competitions and was fired after managing to win only one of the 11 and was yet to post a Serie A victory. He had only served for two months. Now Alexander Blessing was appointed on Wednesday as the new head coach and he will be inheriting a dispirited squad which was crushed 6-0 by Fiorentina on Monday night, under interim coach Abdoulay Konko.
The defeat sums up their form as they haven’t won in any of their last six matches across all competitions, picking up two draws and suffering four defeats in the run. They currently sit 19th in the Serie A standings six points adrift of safety, but with their current form the Ligurian outfit are lurching towards Serie B.
Meanwhile Udinese have been fairly inconsistent this season as they have recorded five wins, eight draws and eight defeats from their 21 league matches, collecting 23 points which have left them sitting in the 14th place with seven points above the relegation zone.
Udinese have been on the receiving end this year as they have lost all their three matches in 2022 across all competitions. However, they lost to Atalanta, Juventus and Lazio in the three fixtures. Now facing a lowly Genoa, Udinese should take advantage of their hosts’ shaky defence.
They will fancy their chances to bounce back on Saturday as they have not lost against Genoa in their last 11 meetings, claiming six wins and five draws in the run.
