Gabon will trade tackles with the Pharaohs of Egypt in the 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifier this Sunday September 5th as Egypt travel to Stade de Franceville.
The home side will be looking to bounce back from an opening defeat away last time out and begin their own qualification campaign. Gabon were stunned 2-1 by the Mediterranean Knights of Libya at the Martyrs of February Stadium on Wednesday. However, Andre Poko had given Gabon the lead in the 11th minute.
Gabon will be looking forward to alter their previous performance as this was the third match to lose in the four away matches. Gabon come to this home match aiming to get points to push them to the world cup championship having already secured a place in the AFCON.
Egypt on the other hand began their quest for a place in world cup championship next year on a good note by seeing off the threat of Angola with a 1-0 victory at the Cairo International Stadium on Wednesday.
Mohamed Kafsha’s first-half penalty was enough to give the North Africans the lead to the final whistle. Hossam El-Badry’s men are on an excellent form taking nine games without a defeat since they were knocked out in the round of 16 of the 2019 AFCON.
However, Egypt has only had one victory in their last 3 away matches and this will be a point to make a different record if they manage the victory. Both of these sides have looked strong in defense establishing something of a fortress at home, Gabon have conceded only 1 goal in their last 3 matches. Meanwhile Egypt have conceded only 2 goals in their last 7 matches and the match is likely to be tight.
Gabon vs Egypt head to head
These sides have not met recently and they last met competitively at the 1994 Africa Cup of Nations when the Pharoahs were emphatic in a 4-0 victory. Egypt haven’t lost in their last 8 games. Gabon have also won 3 home matches in a row.
