Fiorentina are set to take on Atalanta at Stadio Artemio Franchi in what is expected to be an exciting clash in the Serie A Matchday 26 on Sunday afternoon with kickoff at 14:30.
Fiorentina have made an impressive campaign this season with the side sitting eighth on 39 points from their 24 matches and they sit on the shoulders of the leading pack in pursuit of European football next season as they are just three points outside the top-six.
After much was said about Fiorentina’s fortunes in the wake of Dusan Vlahovic’s big move to Juventus, the Violas started life without their prolific forward on a sour note as they suffered a 3-0 at the hands of fellow European-seeking counterparts Lazio. However, Vincenzo Italiano’s side bounced back to winning ways, impressively claiming two consecutive wins against their Saturday opponents Atalanta in the quarter-finals of the Coppa Italia and Spezia in Serie A.
Violas have now generally won four of their last six matches across all competitions and they continue to play offensive football as they have scored at least two goals in their last two matches. They will be looking to continue their momentum as they aim at breaking into the top-six and they will fancy their chances of hurting Atalanta having already beaten them twice this season, in the league and cup.
Atalanta have been rather underwhelming of late following a fine start to the campaign, which saw them spend most of the first half of the season in the Champions League places. However, La Dea have hit a slump in the recent weeks as they have only won one of their last seven league matches, drawing four while suffering three defeats.
As a result Atalanta have been displaced from their previous fourth place by Juventus and they now sit three points behind the Old Lady in the fifth but with games in hand.
However, Atalanta head into the match in a good mood having bounce back with a 2-1 win against Olympiacos in the first leg of the Europa League knockout playoff at home last Thursday. They will also draw confidence from their strong away form as they are the only side still unbeaten on the road throughout the top five European leagues, claiming nine wins so far.
Atalanta will be aware of the importance of the three points in this match and thus will come in guns blazing looking for revenge while also aiming at staying in touch with the top-four in the process.
