Famalicao and Santa Clara kick off Sunday’s Primeira Liga action when they go head to head at the Estadio Municipal de Famalicao.
Both teams are yet to pick up a win in the new league campaign and we are expecting a tight contest with both sides looking for a morale-boosting result.
Famalicao were unable to get up and running in the new Primeira Liga season as they were held to a goalless draw by Gil Vicente at the Estadio Cidade de Barcelos last Monday.
Rui Silva’s side and Gil Vicente were guilty of a lack of sting at the attacking end of the pitch as they failed to convert several clear-cut chances before settling for a draw.
Famalicao were previously on a run of two defeats from their opening two matches of the season, losing 2-0 to Estoril Praia in the league curtain-raiser on August 6 before they fell to a 3-0 defeat against Braga six days later.
Meanwhile, Santa Clara began their new campaign with a disappointing goalless draw against newly-promoted Casa Pia on August 7 before they were beaten 2-1 by Boavista a week later.
Mario Silva’s side were left empty handed for the second successive game last weekend when they fell to a 2-1 defeat against Arouca on home turf.
Os Acoreanos head into the weekend winless in their last four Primeira Liga matches, picking up one draw and losing three, while they have failed to taste victory in nine consecutive away games in the league since the start of February.
While Silva’s side will be looking to end this dry spell and get their campaign up and running, next up is an opposing side who are unbeaten in each of the last four meetings between the sides, claiming three wins and one draw since a 1-0 defeat in January 2020.

Famalicao news
Famalicao will have to make do without the services of midfielder Ivan Jaime after he ruptured his cruciate ligament back in January.
Ivo Rodrigues is also a doubt for the hosts after he was forced off injured shortly after the hour mark in the game against Gil Vicente last time out.
Santa Clara news
Newly-signed forward Rildo has hit the ground running for Santa Clara having scored in his first two games for the club, and should lead the attack once again.
23-year-old Bruno Jordao could be handed his debut this weekend, teaming up with skipper Anderson Carvalho and Victor Bobsin in the midfield.
Prediction and Odds
The two teams head into the contest having failed to get their new campaign up and running and we expect them to take the game to each other in search of a first league win.
Santa Clara have struggled for results on the road but we feel that they will pick up a point here.
