After getting the better of their local rivals Liverpool at the weekend, Everton Ladies will be looking to claim consecutive victories when they take on Leicester City Women on Thursday.
Meanwhile, their visitors are still searching for their first points of the season after losing their opening two Women’s Super League matches.
After kicking off the campaign with a 1-0 defeat to West Ham United, Everton made the short trip to Anfield with the objective of claiming the bragging rights over their local rivals.
Everton may have been cautious about their chances of victory, but any concerns quickly faded when Megan Finnigan gave the Toffees the lead within nine minutes, while Jess Park doubled her side’s advantage before half time.
A goal from Hanna Bennison in the 87th minute added further gloss to the scoreline as Everton beat their rivals 3-0 to claim their first win of the season.
Having defeated Leicester in both of their previous two Women’s Super League meetings, Everton will be confident of recording a second consecutive victory on Thursday.
Meanwhile, Leicester are one of three Women’s Super League teams still without a point this season after losing their opening two matches.
After losing 2-1 to Spurs on the opening weekend of the campaign, hopes of picking up a positive result in Sunday’s encounter with Aston Villa were dealt a blow when Rachel Daly scored from the spot in the third minute.
Despite keeping the deficit at one for the majority of the game, Leicester were unable to find the equaliser before Emily Gielnik sealed a 2-0 victory for Villa with an 86th-minute goal.
The Foxes may have narrowly avoided the drop by two points last season, but consecutive defeats suggest another relegation fight could be in store for Lydia Mary Bedford’s side this time around.
