This Wednesday Wembley will host another huge, exciting and tough fixture as England welcomes Denmark to the capital for the second semifinal of Euro 2020 with kickoff at 22:00.
Both countries will be in their first semifinal of European Champions in over 20 years and both teams are desperate to reach the final as either Italy or Spain will be awaiting for the victors on Sunday.
England started off their Euro 2020 campaign slowly but managed to get out the group stage on top of Group D with seven points from their three matches scoring twice and are yet to concede any in this tournament. However, the Three Lions have been picking momentum as they managed to get past Germany with a 2-0 victory in the last 16 and now, they have advanced to the last four after a thrilling 4-0 win against Ukraine in the quarterfinals.
Southgate’s side are among the favorites to win the title and according to many are as well the favorites to win the Wednesday’s clash as his squad is packed with quality in all departments, confidence is high and they have home advantage at Wembley which might be a major factor for England’s win. Also, England are currently in a good form as they have an eleven-match unbeaten run with a three-match winning streak and they would like to keep it that way.
Denmark on the other hand have been brilliant with great team spirit as no one expected them to be where they are now, it’s truly remarkable that the Danes have made it to the semifinals following their worst possible start of Euro 2020 campaign as their talisman Eriksen collapsed on the pitch in their opening match against Finland. Denmark lost the first two fixtures following the incident and needed a final match win against Russia to squeeze into the knockouts.
Using Eriksen’s incident and his miraculous survival and the unity and spirit of togetherness it brought to the squad and the supporters the Danes have since been brilliant managing to advance to the knockout stage winning 4-0 against Wales in the last 16 and followed with 2-1 win against Czech Republic in the quarters.
Although as mentioned earlier many see England to be the favorites for this match but the Danes should not be ruled out easily as they also have a talented squad with great team spirit and massive emotional support. Besides that, the last time these two met was back in 2020 in a nations league match where Denmark emerged victorious with a 1-0 win at Wembley showing that they are more than capable of pulling a major upset in this match.
