Empoli are set to take on Roma at the Stadio comunale Carlo Castellani in an intriguing Serie A affair on Sunday evening with kickoff at 20:00.
Despite being inconsistent in the 2021-22 Serie A season, Empoli will be delighted with what they have achieved so far this season with the club managing to collect 29 points from their 22 league matches, and currently sit in the 11th spot with just two points outside the top-half, which is impressive for a newly promoted side.
However, they head into the match in a poor form as they haven’t won in any of their last six games across all competitions including the previous 3-2 defeat to Inter Milan in the Coppa Italia. The defeat came on the back of a five-match winless run in Serie A, recording three draws and two defeats including the 5-1 humiliation at home to Sassuolo.
The Azzurri will therefore be looking to put an end to their slump, and they are likely to fight tooth and nail against Jose Mourinho’s troops.
Meanwhile Roma have made an unconvincing campaign this season and currently sit in the seventh on 35 points collected from 22 matches. They seven points behind the fourth-placed Atalanta who have played on match less.
However, they head into the match in good spirits as they are coming off back-to-back victories against Cagliari in Serie A and Lecce in the Coppa Italia. The win against Cagliari was vital for the capital club as it ended their three-match winless run including back-to-back defeats in Serie A and also it saw them keep their Champions League hopes alive.
Therefore they will be looking to keep the momentum going as they aim at keeping in touch with the European places and considering Empoli’s difficulties at the back in their last match we are tempted to put our money on Jose Mourinho’s.
