Ecuador will host Argentina at Estadio Monumental Banco in their final World Cup qualifying fixture on Tuesday afternoon with kickoff at 02:30.
Both sides have little to fight for in this match having already advanced to the World Cup finals in Qatar later this year. Ecuador sit third in the South America qualifying table with 25 points from 17 matches four points above the fifth-placed Peru, while Argentina sit in second on 38 points from 16 matches, 13 points above their Wednesday hosts and four points behind leaders Brazil who have also played 16 matches.
Ecuador have not been a good form recently failing to win all their last three qualifying matches and are coming of a 3-1 defeat to Paraguay at away last Friday. They will be looking to end their campaign in a style and a win against Argentina fits the description.
Meanwhile Argentina have made a good qualifying campaign having and remain unbeaten in the South America World Cup qualifiers alongside Brazil and have won all their last three qualifying matches – including the 3-0 win against Venezuela last Saturday.
With their postponed meeting with Brazil due to be played in the summer, Argentina will aim to keep their slim hopes of a top finish with another positive result on Wednesday, while hoping Brazil drop points in their match against Bolivia.
Argentina have a good head-to-head record over their hosts and are no doubt the favorites to pick all three points on Wednesday.
