Newly promoted Dundee will open their 2021-22 Scottish Premiership campaign with hopes of claiming all the three points when they take on St Mirren this Saturday at the Dens Park with kickoff at 17:00.
Dundee earned their promotion from the Championship last season after beating a top tier side Kilmarnock 4-2 on aggregate in the promotion-relegation playoffs final back in May.
Dundee were good in the pre-season preparations winning two of their three summer friendlies including 3-0 over Forfar followed by another 3-0 win against Leyton Orient and a 2-2 draw against West Ham. Just like in the pre-season preparation the Dark Blues were also impressive in the League Cup winning all four group stage matches with an aggregate score of 14-2 goals and will facing Motherwell next at home.
Manager James McPake will be hopping that his side will use their positivity and momentum in this match as they look to revenge against The Saints who have not lost to Dundee in their last five matches.
Meanwhile, St Mirren enjoyed their most successful Premiership campaign last season in 30 years with a 7th-placed finish with 45 points the highest they have ever achieved since the 1925-26 campaign. Also, the team did well to reach the two domestic cup semi-finals but losing out to St Johnstone in the Scottish Cup and 1-0 to Livingstone in the League Cup.
Now Manager Jim Goodwin will be proud of his team’s achievements last season and hoping that they can improve further across all competitions this season a task they look set for evidently in their League Cup campaign as they have already won all of their four group stage matches with a +4 goal difference.
The Saints will fancy their chances of salvaging all the three points as they have had a few problems when facing Dundee in recent years, winning five of their last seven encounters with three of these wins being at the Dens Park.
