The Scottish Premiership returns this weekend after the division and two sides at the bottom of the relegation group square off as Dundee welcome St Johnstone to Dens Park for their Matchday 1 tie of the second phase on Saturday, with kickoff at 17:00 EAT.
Both sides made minimal campaigns in the first phase of the season with Dundee registering just five victories from their 33 games, while picking up 10 draws and suffering 18 defeats in process and they sit at the bottom of the relegation group on 25 points, 11 points adrift of safety; whereas St Johnstone recorded seven wins, nine draws and 17 defeats from their 33 matches to collect 30 points which left them sitting 11th with six points adrift of safety.
While both sides will be under pressure to pick up the points to better their chances of survival, Dundee will certainly be under more pressure as with just six matches to go a defeat on Saturday will be catastrophic for them. Basically, this has to go down as a must win for the Dark Blues who don’t need any further motivation.
However, they head into the match in a poor form having failed to win any of their last nine Premiership matches picking up four draws while suffering five defeats in the run. Their home form is not good either, as they have played nine home matches in a row without winning and have suffered six defeats in that run. Therefore, they really need to put in more efforts and display a fighting character or they will surely be left staring in the abyss.
Meanwhile St Johnstone will be disappointed really with their current situation following much success last season, where they claimed two domestic cups and finished in the top half of the table. However, they are in much better situation than their opponents and will be keen to better their situation even more on Saturday.
They are coming off an embarrassing 7-0 defeat to Celtic, which ended their back-to-back league victories and will be looking for a response here, although, they have been struggling on the road recently having failed any of their last five away matches.
