Dundee vs Hibernian Match Analysis and Prediction

Dundee play host to Hibernian at Kilmac Stadium at Dens Park in the Scottish Premiership on Tuesday knowing that three points will prove vital in the hunt for survival.

Meanwhile, the visitors still have hopes of finishing in seventh place despite having failed to win either of their last two matches.

When Mark McGhee got onto the reigns at Dundee back in February, his main aim was to secure the club’s top-flight status for another season, maybe even push further from the relegation zone.

However, the veteran manager has failed to win any of his 12 matches across all competitions, with just five points having been picked up from 11 games in the Scottish Premiership. They have failed to post a home league victory since December 1.

The Dark Blues now need to defeat both of Hibernian and Livingston and hope that St Johnstone lose each of their remaining two matches of the season.

Dundee’s task becomes even more tough by being seven goals worse off when it comes to goal difference, leaving them with little choice to go near enough to all-out-attack on Tuesday.

On the other hand, David Gray will continue his role of caretaker manager until the end of the season having recently stepped in for Shaun Maloney.

Like his previous temporary spell in charge, he has won one, drawn one and lost one of three matches, although Hibernian have failed to defeat Livingston or Aberdeen in successive games.

On the positive, the Hibees came from behind to claim a point last time out, while Gray has tightened a defence which were conceding goals more regularly when Maloney was at the helm.

Although Gray will want Hibernian to finish the season in seventh position, this campaign will be considered a failure regardless of any outcomes in their last two matches.

Dundee news

McGhee is likely to make several changes to his Dundee XI with Paul McMullan potentially regaining his spot on the right flank.

Shaun Bryne could return in the centre of midfield as well as Max Anderson, but only one of the two will be recalled if Charlie Adam keeps his place.

Hibernian news

Having supplied the assist for Hibernian’s equaliser against Aberdeen, James Scott stands to be given an opportunity in a creative role, while Gray may stick with the remaining players with just Josh Campbell dropping out.

Meanwhile, Kevin Nisbet, Kyle Magennis, Drey Wright , Chris Cadden and Christian Doidge are all still sidelined.

Prediction and Odds

Dundee enter the contest knowing that they need to put their best in the game, as they need a win to potentially remain with a chance of retaining their league status.

However, they face a Hibernian side who have dominated them in their previous meetings, and we back them for a win.
