Both Dundee United and St Mirren will be attempting to return to winning ways when the lock horns in their Scottish Premiership matchday 21 at the Tannadice Park on Tuesday night with kickoff at 22:45.
Dundee United opened the 2021/22 season impressively with the club claiming six wins, two draw and two defeats from their first 10 matches and spent most of the first half of the season in the top-half. However, by the end of 2021 Thomas Courts’ side had fallen into a slump, recording six winless performances which included five defeats.
As a result the Terrors slipped down the table and they open 2022 in the seventh place with 25 points on the board, but are just two points outside the top-half and seven above the relegation zone. That means that a win on Tuesday would potentially take them back into the top six.
They are coming of a 3-1 defeat to Hibernian at home in their last Premiership outing, which extended their losing streak to five matches in the top-flight and will likely want to forget the way they finished 2021 and a win on the opening day of 2022 will do just that, but will need to improve their attacking performances in order to make that happen, as the club is the second lowest-scoring team in the division.
St Mirren meanwhile, had a difficult first half o to the season with club, recording just three wins in their 20 league matches, while picking up 10 draws and seven defeats in the process. They currently sit in the ninth spot on 19 points collected from 20 matches and are just three points above the relegation zone.
The poor campaign is a result of the club’s struggles at both attacking at defence ends on the pitch this season as they have only managed 18 goals throughout the campaign while they have shipped in 31 at their end.
Jim Goodwn’s side head into the match in poor form having not won any of their last 11 Premiership matches, picking up six draws and five defeats in the run. However, St Mirren would delighted to have gotten a point out of their last two matches as they came up against Celtic and Rangers, drawing 0-0 with Ange Postecoglou’s men before surrendering to a 2-0 defeat to the league leaders.
With their poor form though, dragging them into the relegation battle the Buddies will be desperate for the three points in the Tuesday’s clash and they will fancy their chances as the last time they visited Tannadice Park they raced to 5-1 victory and will another positive result here.
